Mens Competition Report
Club Competition Secretary Report - Gerry Coffield
The club finals went very well this year, despite having to move the majority of the games to Saturday 11th at short notice from Sunday 12th. Notices were put up in
the club so members could see the change but apologies if anyone was not aware of the change who would have liked to come and support the competitors.
The reason for the last minute change was that Greenbank men got through to the finals of the Gloucester 2 rink which had already been arranged for the Sunday.
Saturday was very successful; the weather was good and the standard of the games was excellent.
Another important factor which helped to make it such a good day was that the Ladies played two of their finals on the Saturday as well, with the remaining two
having to be played on Sunday due to Sue Humphries being in four finals. This in itself made it more of a club finals day, and all the men did seem to enjoy having
the ladies playing at the same time.
A huge thank you must go to Shirley Gibbs , Ladies Competition Secretary for the excellent job she has done in running the ladies competitions and helping me to
organize the finals. I would also like to thank Richard Turvey, Joan Murch, Wendy Andrews and Sue Humphries for marking the singles matches.
The bowling was extremely good to watch, in particular the two championship games on Saturday morning. Shirley and I made the decision to schedule these games for
the morning because of there being two away matches in the afternoon thereby giving members the opportunity to come and watch the championships.
However this did not seem to have the desired effect and it was disappointing, especially for the finalists that no one turned up to support them. Oh well, I’ll try
again next year!!!!!!!
In conclusion, well done to all the competitors and congratulations to all the winners.
As a footnote I would like to thank all the members who entered the mixed pairs competition on Bank Holiday Monday. We had 12 pairs competing and everyone seemed to
thoroughly enjoy the afternoon. Congratulations to Wendy Andrews and Richard Turvey who won.
